Mule \Mule\ (m[=u]l), n. [F., a she-mule, L. mula, fem. of mulus; cf. Gr. my`klos, mychlo`s. Cf. AS. m[=u]l, fr. L. mulus. Cf. Mulatto.]

  1. (Zo["o]l.) A hybrid animal; specifically, one generated between an ass and a mare. Sometimes the term is applied to the offspring of a horse and a she-ass, but that hybrid is more properly termed a hinny. See Hinny.

    Note: Mules are much used as draught animals. They are hardy, and proverbial for stubbornness.

  2. (Bot.) A plant or vegetable produced by impregnating the pistil of one species with the pollen or fecundating dust of another; -- called also hybrid.

  3. A very stubborn person.

  4. A machine, used in factories, for spinning cotton, wool, etc., into yarn or thread and winding it into cops; -- called also jenny and mule-jenny.

  5. A slipper that has no fitting around the heel.

The Jenny was an alleged English schooner and the subject of an unproven legend. The story goes that the Jenny became frozen in an ice-barrier of the Drake Passage in 1823, only to be rediscovered in 1840 by a whaling ship, the bodies aboard being preserved by the Antarctic cold. The original report has been deemed "unsubstantiated".

The earliest known source for the story appears to be an anonymous article in an 1862 edition of Globus, a popular German geographical magazine.

Jenny (doll)

is a 10½ inch fashion doll produced by Japanese toy company now known as Takara Tomy since 1982. The doll was known as Takara Barbie, and in 1986 the doll was renamed "Jenny" after Takara ended their licensing agreement with Mattel.Takara Barbie differs from a western Barbie. Takara Barbie was altered to better appeal to Japanese preferences, with a shorter height, large rounded manga-style eyes and a closed mouth. The doll's physical figure is more natural than the Western Barbie's exaggerated figure. Like her Western counterpart, Jenny wears a large variety of outfits, which often include street fashion, school uniforms, kimonos, and other uniquely Japanese costumes, such as "Bullet-Train Stewardess Jenny". Today the Jenny doll is a sentimental favorite doll in Japan, but she is much less popular than Licca-chan, Japan's market leader fashion doll.

Jenny (The Click Five song)

"Jenny" is a song by American rock band the Click Five, released as the first single taken from their second album Modern Minds and Pastimes. The song was written by Ben Romans, with Jez Ashurst, of UK band Farrah and Chris Braide. The original demo was sung by Braide.

In an interview with Songfacts, Romans stated about the origin of the song's title: "'Jenny' is just a name. A name that scans well in songs," adding: "A lot of people are like, 'Okay, who's Jenny?' Jenny (Doctor Who)

Jenny, portrayed by Georgia Moffett, is a fictional character in the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. She appeared in the episode " The Doctor's Daughter", originally broadcast 10 May 2008. Jenny is the daughter of the series protagonist the Doctor, a product of altered DNA extracted from a tissue sample from his hand. Jenny was introduced by writer Stephen Greenhorn.

Moffett herself is the real-life daughter of the actor Peter Davison who portrayed the Doctor's fifth incarnation from 1981 to 1984. She was cast as Jenny after auditioning for a more minor part in the episode " The Unicorn and the Wasp", and impressing the series producers. Following the broadcast of "The Doctor's Daughter", the character was generally well received by reviewers, with many speculating that Jenny would return to the franchise. Moffett also expressed an interest in this possibility.

Jenny (gorilla)

Jenny (c. 1953 - September 4, 2008) was a western lowland gorilla who resided at the Dallas Zoo in Dallas, Texas. Jenny was the world's oldest gorilla in captivity at the time of her death in 2008 at the age of 55. Jenny was confirmed to be the oldest living gorilla in the world by the International Species Information System earlier in 2008.

Jenny was born in the wild, so her exact date of birth is unknown. She was acquired by the Dallas Zoo in 1957, where she lived for the rest of her life. Jenny gave birth to a daughter, Vicki, in 1965, but failed to conceive again. As a result, Jenny became part of an American study on the effects of menopause on gorillas. Jenny's daughter, Vicki, was transferred to a zoo in Alberta, Canada, when she was five years old.

The Dallas Zoo celebrated Jenny's 55th birthday in May 2008 with a celebration and frozen fruit birthday cake.

She remained in relatively good health throughout her life, weighing 218 pounds (99 kilograms). However, Jenny was diagnosed with an inoperable stomach tumor during the last few weeks of her life. She had stopped eating and drinking. Jenny was euthanized as a "quality-of-life decision" at the Dallas Zoo on September 4, 2008, at the age of 55.
