Desire is the seventeenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on January 5, 1976 by Columbia Records.
It is one of Dylan's most collaborative efforts, featuring the same caravan of musicians as the acclaimed Rolling Thunder Revue tours the previous year (later documented on The Bootleg Series Vol. 5). Many of the songs also featured backing vocals by Emmylou Harris and Ronee Blakley. Most of the album was co-written by Jacques Levy, and is composed of lengthy story-songs, two of which quickly generated controversy: the 11-minute long " Joey", which is seen as glorifying the violent gangster "Crazy Joey" Gallo, and " Hurricane", the opening track that tells a passionate account of the murder case against boxer Rubin Carter, whom the song asserts was framed. Carter was released in 1985, after a judge overturned his conviction on appeal.
A well-received follow-up to Blood on the Tracks, Desire reached #1 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart for five weeks, becoming one of Dylan's top-selling studio albums (currently certified double platinum), while reaching #3 in the UK. It claimed the number one slot on NME Album of the Year. Rolling Stone named Desire #174 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Desire is the second solo album from hip hop artist Pharoahe Monch, released on June 26, 2007. The album comes eight years after the rapper's critically acclaimed solo debut, Internal Affairs, which followed the break-up of Monch's former group Organized Konfusion. After a short stint on Geffen Records, a number of labels began a bidding war for the rapper, including Eminem's Shady Records, Denaun Porter's Runyon Ave. Records, Bad Boy Records and Sony Records. In early 2006, it was announced that Pharoahe had signed a deal with Steve Rifkind's Street Records Corporation for the release of his second album. The first song released from the album was "Let's Go", produced by Black Milk. "Let's Go" was featured as the B-Side on the album's first proper single, "Push", released in September 2006. A music video for "Push" was also released in late September 2006, and has received play on MTV Base. The video is set in the New York City blackout of 1977. A ten-minute internet-only video for the track "When the Gun Draws" was released exclusively to AllHipHop.com on January 3, 2007. Desire features production from Monch, longtime collaborator Lee Stone, The Alchemist, Denaun Porter, Black Milk and Sean C. Album guests include Erykah Badu and Denaun Porter. Desire is the second album released by Toyah Willcox as a solo artist.
It is more typical of her band's earlier albums rather than its more commercial predecessor Minx, although it didn't entirely escape the imposition of cover versions, including " Echo Beach", originally recorded by Martha and the Muffins, and, somewhat incongruously, " Love's Unkind", originally by Donna Summer. However, most of the songs are once again co-written by Willcox, and while the original release of the album does not feature any musician credits, it does however benefit from a consistent band line-up [as detailed on Toyah Willcox's official website], rather than the large number of session musicians involved in Minx.
Two singles were released from the album, "Echo Beach", which became a minor hit in the UK and "Moonlight Dancing". In her autobiography, Willcox stated that she was forced to record "Love's Unkind" by her record label, but she was fiercely opposed to it. E.G. Records threatened to cancel the album's release if she did not.
To date, the album has yet to be reissued - so cd copies are rare and tend to be very expensive. However, Toyah has stated in her webletters that a reissue is on the cards for the future.
"Desire" was the Maltese entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, performed predominantly in English but with a bridge in Maltese by Claudette Pace.
The song is an up-tempo ballad, with Pace explaining the depth of her feelings to her lover. She tells him that "I've desired to hold you/Have you and make you mine" from their first meeting onwards, and that when he turns her away, her "fire" turns to "smoke". She also tells him that she believes that "Deep in your smile is desire for more".
Composer-lyricist combination Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg provided the Maltese entry at the 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2008 Contests. Additionally, two of Pace's backing singers were also solo entrants in their own right - Sahlene, performing under her real name, would go on to represent Estonia with " Runaway" and Gabriel Forss had previously represented Sweden as a member of Blond with " Bara hon älskar mig".
The appearance of the Maltese language is also of note, as it was the first time since Malta's return to the Eurovision stage in 1991 that this language had been heard, a break of 28 years and thus the longest break between two appearances of a language in Contest history. Translated into English, the phrase is "I have always wanted you / I have always desired you / You, I have loved".
The song was performed seventh on the night, following Romania's Taxi with " The Moon" and preceding Norway's Charmed with " My Heart Goes Boom". At the close of voting, it had received 73 points, placing 8th in a field of 24.
It was succeeded as Maltese representative at the 2001 Contest by Fabrizio Faniello with " Another Summer Night".

The Desire was the 120 ton flagship Thomas Cavendish built for his highly successful 1586-1588 circumnavigation of the globe. The Desire was only the third ship to circumnavigate the globe after the Victoria of Ferdinand Magellan (journey completed by Juan Sebastián Elcano) and the Golden Hind of Francis Drake. After this expedition Cavendish was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I of England who was invited to a dinner aboard the Desire.
The ship was later captained by John Davis on the second, unsuccessful, Cavendish expedition. On that same expedition it was the ship he captained when he probably discovered the Falkland Islands. Davis brought the ship back, in a wretched state, to Berehaven in Ireland on 14 June 1593. Only Davis and fifteen crewmen survived out of an original 76 on the ship.
Port Desire in Patagonia was named by Cavendish in 1586 after his ship and later became known by the Spanish translation of the name, Puerto Deseado.
Before his death, which occurred on the voyage home from the ill-fated second expedition, Cavendish made his will, bequeathing the Desire to Sir George Carey
