Baby (MacLachlan novel)

Baby is a 1995 novel by Patricia MacLachlan. It explores the themes of family and abandonment while offering a touching novel about a family who discovers a baby and has to care for it. With the baby, is a short note, explaining why the baby was left, and with brief information about her.

It was also adapted into a 2000 made-for-TV movie directed by Robert Allan Ackerman and starring Farrah Fawcett, Keith Carradine, and Jean Stapleton.

It was about Twelve-year-old Larkin lives with her mom and dad on an island year round. The story opens at the end of summer, as the last summer ferry carries the tourists away until the next summer. One little island “guest” is left behind at Larkin’s home. An almost year old baby, Sophie, has been left by her mother with a note attached telling the family that “I will come back for her one day.” Sophie becomes the catalyst which brings about healing in Larkin’s family. As the family takes in Sophie, they uncover the pain surrounding the loss of Larkin’s newborn brother, “Baby,” six months prior. Larkin’s parents never talk about him, never named him, and through their silence have isolated each other from themselves and from their daughter. The story unfolds beautifully as Larkin’s family cycles through fear of love, love for Sophie, then once again has to face loss again, when Sophie’s mother returns in the spring to claim her. During the story, Larkin discovers poetry and how words are “wondrous” and powerful, and through this power Larkin and her family find their way back from loss and pain. Baby speaks powerfully to foster care, too. Larkin’s grandmother, with foresight, has the following conversation with Larkin: “This is not meant to be easy,” she said, “It is a very important thing to do, for Sophie and especially for your mother and father. But it will not be easy. Do you understand?” I understood. I did. I knew that what she meant was what Papa had said. Sophie was not ours. Someday she would go away. Another thing to miss. “Why is it important?” I asked her… “It is important, Larkin, because we are giving Sophie something to take away with her when she goes.” “What?” asked Lalo [Larkin's friend]. “What will she take with her?” “Us,” said Byrd firmly. “And what will we have when she’s gone?” I asked . Twelve years later,Sophie comes to visit the island, because Byrd had died. Larkin's younger brother was named William.

Baby (band)

Baby was an American southern rock band from Texas. The band was signed to Lone Starr Records in the mid-1970s. They got the attention of the executives at Mercury Records based on their regional album sales in Texas. The album was remixed and re-released in mid-1975 on Mercury. Baby had a legion of fans in the Midwest and South in 1975-76 and headlined venues like the famed Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa while generating regional radio airplay on the band's first single, "(It's Another) Saturday Night".

The band made just two albums; the self-titled album and the follow-up album called Where Did All The Money Go? released on Chelsea Records in 1976. The second album's title, Where Did All The Money Go?, summed up the feelings for the band that seemed poised for success similar to what other southern rock artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band were having in the mid-70s, but the success never came for them. Recently, the popular song "Baby," by the teen heart throb, Justin Bieber, created a huge surge on the band's YouTube videos.

After low sales of Where Did All The Money Go? and a lawsuit with John Waite and The Babys over the rights of the name "Baby(s)", the band quit.

Guitarist, songwriter and vocalist Johnny Lee Schell went on to play on the Grammy winning album Nick Of Time from Bonnie Raitt in 1989. He has played with some of the world's biggest names and continues to produce, write and contribute to many blues-based artists as well as his own solo projects. Recently, Schell's guitar work was with Barbara Blue and her latest blues album, Memphis 3rd And Beale.

Late in 2008, bassist/vocalist Stephen Crane and keyboardist Charlie Rouzer, founding members of Baby in the early 1970s, reunited to form Texas Blues Runners, a four-piece blues band based in Austin, Texas.

Baby (Thorup novel)

Baby is a 1973 novel by Danish author Kirsten Thorup. It deals with the disadvantaged members of society, those who have failed to make a mark.

The novel traces the movements of a selection of losers as they leave a cheap Copenhagen nightclub. There is Mark, a car salesman heavily in debt who ultimately separates from his pretty wife, Suzie who goes off to Sweden on a drunken escape, Leni who translates porno rather than the book she would like to complete, and many others. The losers are contrasted with Eddy, a loan shark, who causes increasing distress among his clients.

The overall message seems to be that nothing really matters, everything is reduced to the same low common denominator. The book is written in a simple style that is easy to read—whether as a novel or as an ambitious experiment.

The novel was awarded the Pegasus Prize for Literature in 1979.

Baby (Justin Bieber song)

"Baby" is a song by Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber. It was released as the lead single from the latter half of Bieber's debut album, My World 2.0. The track was written by Bieber with Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash, both of whom worked with Bieber on "One Time", and also by R&B singer Christina Milian and labelmate, rapper Ludacris.

It was available for digital download on January 18, 2010. The song received airplay directly after release, officially impacting mainstream and rhythmic radio on January 26, 2010. The song is uptempo R&B, blending together dance-pop and hip-hop elements, while using influences of doo-wop music. The song has received positive reviews from critics who complimented the song's effective lyrics and chorus, and commended Ludacris' part and the song's ability to have an urban twist.

The song was a commercial success, peaking at number one in France, and charting in the top ten of the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia, Norway, Japan, Ireland, Hungary, Belgium ( Flanders), Slovakia and New Zealand. The accompanying music video takes place in a mall/ bowling-alley setting. The video features several cameos such as Drake, Lil Twist and Tinashe, in which Bieber chases after a girl. As of May 2013, the song has sold 3.9 million digital downloads in the United States.

The official music video is the fifteenth most-viewed video all-time on YouTube, and is also, as of 2016, the YouTube video with the most dislikes. It had been the most-viewed from July 12, 2010 until November 24, 2012, when it was surpassed by the music video for " Gangnam Style" by Psy. Bieber performed the song several times, including Saturday Night Live, and the ninth season of American Idol. Bieber also performed an acoustic rendition of the remix version with Drake at the 2010 Juno Awards. The official remix in the United Kingdom features British hip-hop artist Chipmunk.
