What is "wavellite"

Wavellite \Wa"vel*lite\, n. [After Dr. Wm. Wavel, the discoverer.] (Min.) A hydrous phosphate of alumina, occurring usually in hemispherical radiated forms varying in color from white to yellow, green, or black.

n. (context mineralogy English) A hydrated aluminium phosphate, aluminum₃(phosphorusoxygen₄)₂(Ohydrogen,fluorine)₃·5water, sometimes mined as a source of phosphorus.

Wavellite is a phosphate mineral with formula Al( P O)(O H, F)·5 HO. It normally occurs as translucent green radial or spherical clusters.
