Sodium aluminate

Sodium aluminate is an important commercial inorganic chemical. It works as an effective source of aluminium hydroxide for many industrial and technical applications. Pure sodium aluminate ( anhydrous) is a white crystalline solid having a formula variously given as NaAlO, NaAl(OH) ( hydrated), NaO·AlO, or NaAlO. Commercial sodium aluminate is available as a solution or a solid.
Other related compounds, sometimes called sodium aluminate, prepared by reaction of NaO and AlO are NaAlO which contains discrete AlO anions, NaAlO and NaAlO which contain complex polymeric anions, and NaAlO, once mistakenly believed to be β-alumina, a phase of aluminium oxide.

Usage examples of "sodium aluminate".

The infamous red mud is heated with limestone (calcium carbonate) and soda to regenerate sodium aluminate, and the solution is fed back into the Bayer process.
