Chopper

Chopper may refer to:

Chopper (motorcycle)

A chopper is a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in the United States in the mid-1960s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance. They can be built from an original motorcycle which is modified ("chopped") or built from scratch. Some of the characteristic features of choppers are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle, hardtail frames (frames without rear suspension), very tall "ape hanger" or very short "drag" handlebars, lengthened or stretched frames, and larger than stock front wheels. The "sissy bar", a set of tubes that connect the rear fender with the frame, and which are often extended several feet high, is a signature feature on many choppers.

Perhaps the best known choppers are the two customized Harley-Davidsons, the " Captain America" and "Billy Bike", seen in the 1969 film Easy Rider.

Chopper (film)

Chopper is a 2000 Australian crime film written and directed by Andrew Dominik and based on the autobiographical books by Mark "Chopper" Read. The film stars Eric Bana as the title character and co-stars Vince Colosimo, Simon Lyndon, Kate Beahan and David Field. It has a cult following.

Chopper (electronics)

In electronics, a chopper circuit is used to refer to numerous types of electronic switching devices and circuits used in power control and signal applications. A chopper is a switching device that converts fixed DC input to a variable DC output voltage directly. Essentially, a chopper is an electronic switch that is used to interrupt one signal under the control of another.

In power electronics applications, since the switching element is either fully on or fully off, its losses are low, and the circuit can provide high efficiency. However, the current supplied to the load is discontinuous and may require smoothing or a high switching frequency to avoid undesirable effects. In signal processing circuits, use of a chopper stabilizes a system against drift of electronic components; the original signal can be recovered after amplification or other processing by a synchronous demodulator that essentially un-does the "chopping" process.

Chopper (propeller)

A chopper is a propeller design largely of interest for production outboards on fast pad v-bottom boats. Unlike a cleaver the chopper's trailing edge extends aft with a large chord line at each radius. Choppers provide good acceleration and top speed and generally have relatively high rake, which has the effect of increasing the boat's angle of attack without changing the motor trim. This trimming effect is mistakenly called 'bow lift'.

Chopper (comics)

Chopper is a horror comic book mini-series written by Martin Shapiro, illustrated by Juan Ferreyra (who was later replaced by Cliff Richards from issue #3 onward), and published by Asylum Press in 2011.

The series is a modern-day reimagining of the headless horseman from " The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" that takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida during Bike Week.

Chopper (video game)

Chopper is an iOS video game developed by Majic Jungle Software and released on April 5, 2009. The sequel, Chopper 2, was released on July 27, 2010. The game "is a total evolution from the first episode: better graphic, more missions, more variety".

Chopper (ghost)

Chopper was an alleged ghost living in a dentist's office in the city of Neutraubling near Regensburg in Germany that was later discovered by the criminal police to be a fraud.

Chopper (archaeology)

Archaeologists define a chopper as a pebble tool with an irregular cutting edge formed through the removal of flakes from one side of a stone.

Choppers are crude forms of stone tool and are found in industries as early as the Lower Palaeolithic from around 2.5 million years ago. These earliest known specimens were found in the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania by Louis Leakey in the 1930s. The name Oldowan was given to the tools after the site in which they were excavated. These types of tools were used an estimated time range of 2.5 to 1.2 million years ago.

Chopper (Judge Dredd)

Chopper (also known as Marlon Shakespeare) is a fictional character appearing in British comics anthologies 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine. He was created by John Wagner and Ron Smith (with a redesign for his Midnight Surfer persona by Cam Kennedy) and has appeared in numerous Judge Dredd stories, including " Oz", and has his own eponymous series.

The concept and name comes from a fan letter to 2000 AD, which was signed off "From Chopper". Wagner says "there was something about the lad we [him and Grant] liked and we put some of his character into Chopper".

Chopper (rap)

Chopper is a hip hop music style that originated in the Midwest and features fast-paced rhyming or rapping. This is considered the main contribution to rap music by Midwest hip hop artists, though in the early 1990s it had spread to California with artists at "The Good Life" such as Ellay Khule, Freestyle Fellowship, CVE, Riddlore and many other Project Blowed affiliates. Dayton Family and Twista who were out at the same time in the early 1990s ushered in the fast style rap when it gained popularity in the mid-1990s with the emergence of award-winning rap artists such as the Cleveland-based rappers Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Chicago-based rapper Twista. The style of rap eventually spread to other regions all across the world as well.

In the late 1990s, Tech N9ne, a previously underground rap artist, popularized the chopper style among his strong fanbase, and from 2002 to 2011 released a number of songs in collaboration with other chopper-style artists exclusively in this fast-paced style of rap. Chopper style places an emphasis on speed of pronunciation, and as such is commonly attributed to some of the fastest rappers in the world, such as Krayzie and Layzie Bone, Twista, Tech N9ne, Twisted Insane, Busta Rhymes, Rebel XD, Krizz Kaliko and Snow Tha Product.1
