Wheatley

Wheatley may refer to:

Wheatley (surname)

Wheatley is an English surname which translates into Old English as "from the wheat meadow". Alternative spellings include Wheatly, Whatley, Whitley, and Wheatleigh. Whether this is an association of work, or of origin, is debatable. It is probable that the now fairly common surname and its derivatives originate from one who farms wheat. However, the surname "de Wheatley" ("of Wheatley") was in use from around the 12th century, and ascribed to some of those that came from the town of Wheatley in Oxfordshire, England, which was founded around 956 AD. It was also around the 12th century that the custom of adopting a father's name, or his profession, as a surname, became more prevalent.

Other theories ascribe to the belief that most of the ancestry comes from a John Wheatland, who was a very wealthy land owner in Surrey, England. The Wheatland name was then corrupted into Wheatley, Wheatleigh, and in some cases Wheatly.

Wheatley is a crater on Venus at latitude 16.6, longitude 268 in Asteria Regio. It is 74.8 km in diameter and was named after Phillis Wheatley, the first black writer of note in America (1753-1784).

Wheatley (London cricketer)

Wheatley (dates unknown) was an English amateur cricketer who played in first-class cricket for London Cricket Club during the 1730s and was evidently a top order batsman. He was a distiller by trade.

Wheatley (Portal)

Wheatley is a fictional artificial intelligence from the Portal franchise first introduced in the 2011 video game Portal 2. He is voiced by British comedian Stephen Merchant, and created in part by Portal 2s designer Erik Wolpaw. To date, he has appeared in Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Lego Dimensions and The Simpsons as a guest voice (ConRad). Initially serving as a comedic foil to the player-character Chell during the first half of Portal 2, Wheatley becomes the main antagonist of the second half.

Since his appearance in Portal 2, he has received overwhelmingly positive reception from critics. Merchant has been praised for his portrayal by critics who cited his fast-talking dialogue. Wheatley has also been described as a contrast to GLaDOS' "slower-speaking and more deliberate" personality.
