West Point (disambiguation)

West Point is the United States Military Academy, at West Point, New York.

West Point may also refer to:

West Point (Seattle)

West Point is the westernmost point in Seattle, Washington, United States, jutting into Puget Sound from the Magnolia neighborhood. It also marks the northern extent of Elliott Bay; a line drawn southeastward to Alki Point marks the western extent of the bay. At the point itself is the 1881 West Point Lighthouse, the first manned light station on Puget Sound. Just to the east is King County's sewage treatment plant, and beyond that, Discovery Park, formerly the U.S. Army's Fort Lawton.

The original Duwamish Indian name for West Point, transliterated variously as PKa'dz Elue, Oka-dz-elt-cu, Per-co-dus-chule, or Pka-dzEltcu, means "thrust far out." West Point was given its current name in 1841 by U.S. Navy lieutenant Charles Wilkes, commander of the United States Exploring Expedition.

In 1992, construction workers at the sewage treatment plant discovered archaeological remains of early Washington.

West Point (film)

West Point is a 1927 American silent romantic drama film starring William Haines and Joan Crawford in a story about an arrogant cadet who finds love right before the all-important Army–Navy Game.

The story and screenplay were written by Raymond L. Schrock with titles written by Joseph Farnham. The film was directed by Edward Sedgwick.

West Point (locomotive)

West Point was the third steam locomotive constructed in the United States. It was constructed for the South Carolina Railroad by the West Point Foundry of New York and built to plans from Horatio Allen.

The locomotive was built in 1830 and shipped to Charleston, South Carolina, on the Lafayette, arriving there on February 28, 1831, and entering service shortly thereafter.

Its frame and running gear were identical to the earlier Best Friend of Charleston from the same builder, but instead of the Best Friend's vertical boiler, the West Point was fitted with a horizontal locomotive boiler.

West Point (building)

West Point, formerly known as Royal Mail House, is a tall 17-floor tower block located at number 29 of Wellington Street in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was constructed in 1975 and renovated in 2005 as a huge redevelopment of the old Royal Mail building site, following their move to a new south Leeds purpose built sorting centre. The old building was mostly demolished and what remained was stripped to the bare skeleton and rebuilt, with additional wings added from scratch to the central block.
