"cave-dweller," 1550s, from Middle French troglodyte and directly from Latin troglodytae (plural), from Greek troglodytes "cave-dweller, cave-man" (in reference to tribes identified as living in various places by ancient writers; by Herodotus on the African coast of the Red Sea), literally "one who creeps into holes," from trogle "hole, mouse-hole" (from trogein "to gnaw, nibble, munch;" see trout) + dyein "go in, dive in." The troglodyte is a fictional race of primitive reptilian humanoids in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
"Troglodyte (Cave Man)", originally released as "Troglodite", is a 1972 funk song by the Jimmy Castor Bunch. In the USA, it peaked at #4 on the R&B charts and #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Billboard ranked it as the No. 80 song for 1972. The song, especially the intro "What we're gonna do right here is go back, way back, back into time", has been heavily sampled in hip-hop music and dance music.
The song is noted for Castor's repeated lines "Gotta find a woman" and "Sock it to me".
A character introduced in the song, Bertha Butt ("one of the Butt Sisters"), was featured in many later Castor Bunch songs, including " The Bertha Butt Boogie" (1975).
The song is noted for its repeated falsetto line: "I'll Sock it to Ya, Daddy!!", heard before in the song's fade of the "Bertha Butt Boogie".
The song sold over half-a-million copies, and has been certified gold by the RIAA.
Troglodyte is a death metal band from Kansas City, Missouri. Formed in early 2005, the band was formed by singer Jeff Sisson, drummer Chris Wilson, and exceptionally talented guitar thief Jack Riedel. Soon after the creation of the band they were joined by bassist Gary Wray who formerly played for The Feds and Fire Theory. After Gary Wray's departure from the band in early 2006, bassist Ben VonSchiefelbusch soon joined the band.
Troglodyte released their long anticipated demo cd entitled Anthropoid Effigy Demos in mid-2008. Soon they were joined by a second guitar player Jeremy Bruen, who was in the band for about 6 months. During the next few years Troglodyte played numerous shows with national acts such as Testament, Iced Earth, Obituary, Origin and many more.
Troglodyte was best described in an article written by Jordan Rogers. Troglodyte has also been written about in many Magazine articles including Pitch, and will be featured in the No. 111 issue of Rue Morgue Magazine.
In early 2010 they recorded their debut CD entitled Welcome to Boggy Creek. Welcome to Boggy Creek was released early May 2011. In 2007 Troglodyte had the song Don't go in the woods featured on a compilation album released by Razorback Records.
