Sofia

Bulgarian capital, Roman Serdica, from the Thracian Serdi people who lived thereabouts. Conquered by the Bulgarians 9c. who altered the name by folk-etymology to Sredeti, which in their tongue meant "center, middle." It got its current name 14c. when the Turks conquered it and converted the 6c. church of St. Sophia into a mosque; the name thence extended to the whole city.

The city is located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the western part of the country, within less than drive from the Serbian border. Sofia is a 23-year-old bossa singer in the Philippines. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Medical Technology. She is now a licensed medical technologist.

Sofia became the featured artist in a bossa-inspired album project of Ivory Records by accident. After graduating, she was on her way to Japan to pursue her research scholarship grant to study hematology when she was asked to help gather research materials for the project, since she was into bossa nova since she was in high school. Aside from helping out for the lyrics, CDs, and other research materials, she was also asked to submit a demo tape so that Ivory Records would know what bossa sounds like. Sofia submitted a demo tape of the song " Desafinado". The record company was impressed, and then she was tapped to be a session singer. Eventually she was chosen to be the featured artist for the album.

Her album, entitled Bossa Latino Lite, debuted at No.11 at Tower Records’ Top 25 albums chart.

Sofia's second album was released December 28, 2006, entitled In Love With Nova Bossa.

On April 1, 2007, her debut album Bossa Latino Lite reached the gold mark. The awarding took place on SOP, a noontime television show in the Philippines.

Sofia is a 1948 American thriller film directed by John Reinhardt and starring Gene Raymond, Sigrid Gurie and Patricia Morison. It is an early Cold War thriller set partly in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The film was shot on location in Mexico and at the Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City Made in Cinecolor it was released by the low-budget company Film Classics. "Sofia" is a single by Spanish singer-songwriter Álvaro Soler. The song was released as a separate single after " El mismo sol" and "Agusto". Although "Sofia" was not included in the original Soler debut album Eterno Agosto in 2015, nor in the 2015 Italian and Spanish deluxe editions, but it did appear in the Eterno Agosto International 2016 edition as well as the 2016 Italian reissue of the album.
