The cuneiform sign , the sumerogram (capital letter ( majuscule)) is the sign for English language "ship", or "boat", Akkadian language eleppu. When written in cuneiform texts, is preceded by the determinative for items made of wood, namely GIŠ, ( GIŠ (wood Sumerogram). For ship, or boat it is written as: GIŠ.MÁ, or .MÁ, .

Some of the Amarna letters using the sumerogram for ship, or boat, are Amarna letters: EA 86, EA 153, EA 149, and EA 245. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet XI (chapter) (the Flood Story) uses the ship/boat sumerogram; elsewhere Gilgamesh is taken by boat in other chapters of the Epic.

<!--ARAD, (also ÌR or NITÁ) is the capital letter-( majuscule) sumerogram for the Akkadian language word "ardu", for servant. It is used especially in the introduction to the Pharaoh: for example "To King, Lord-mine (of Gods(pl)-mine, Sun-god-mine), message thus Xxxxxx, "Servant-yours"-( 271). It is also used extensively in Amarna letter texts, the author, usually the "man of a city", (or scribe), where there is a constant reminder that he is a "servant", or "servant-yours"-(of the Pharaoh). Many letters are giving city-state status reports, but many are also requesting help with the Egyptian army troops-( Archers (Egyptian pitati), supplied by the Pharaoh).

Ma (myth)

Ma is a Sumerian word meaning "land" that in Sumerian mythology was also used to regard Primordial Land.

There seems to be some loss in records as to the transition, but the same name Ma appears again later, also tied to the Earth, in Ma being referred to as "Mother of the mountain" - in this case, Kur (Mountain) the first dragon god.

The underworld Kur is the void space between the primeval sea ( Abzu) and the earth ( Ma). Which seem a likely pairing for parentage, in a fuzzy set of records.

As of 2006, it ranks as the 14th most common Chinese surname in Mainland China and the most common surname within the Chinese Muslim community, specifically the Hui people, Dongxiang people, and Salar people. However, this surname should not be identified with the Korean surname 'Ma' (마) which has the same pronunciation with the Chinese 'Ma' but has its own distinct history.

Ma (negative space)

Ma is a Japanese word which can be roughly translated as "gap", "space", "pause" or "the space between two structural parts." The spatial concept is experienced progressively through intervals of spatial designation. In Japanese, ma, the word for space, suggests interval. It is best described as a consciousness of place, not in the sense of an enclosed three-dimensional entity, but rather the simultaneous awareness of form and non-form deriving from an intensification of vision.

Ma is not something that is created by compositional elements; it is the thing that takes place in the imagination of the human who experiences these elements. Therefore, ma can be defined as experiential place understood with emphasis on interval.

Ma (cuneiform)

The cuneiform ma sign, is found in both the 14th century BC Amarna letters and the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the Epic it is also used as the sumerogram MA, (for Akkadian language "mina", manû, a weight measure, as MA.NA, or MA.NA.ÀM). The ma sign is often used at the end of words, besides its alphabetic usage inside words as syllabic ma, elsewhere for m, or a.

The usage of cuneiform ma in the Epic of Gilgamesh, is only exceeded by the usage of a (cuneiform) (1369 times, and 58, A (sumerogram), versus 1047 times for ma, 6 for MA (sumerogram)). The high usage for a is partially a result of the prepositional use for a-na-(Akkadian "ana", to, for, etc.); "i", also has an increased prepositional use of i (cuneiform), for Akkadian ina, ( i- na), for in, into, etc.
