Lucero is an American country-punk rock band based in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. Lucero's sound has been described as a "synthesis of soul, rock, and country [that] is distinctly Memphisian." They have released 11 albums and one live DVD, mostly through their own label. The band mainly tours around North America.
Lucero Hogaza León (; born 29 August 1969 in Mexico City, Mexico) known as Lucero, is a Mexican singer, songwriter, actress and television host. She is a multi-platinum singer in Mexico, and has sung in Spanish, English and Portuguese. She is the daughter of Lucero León and Antonio Hogaza and has one brother, Antonio. Lucero has sold more than 22 million records worldwide and is recognized in Latin America and Mexico as "La Novia de America".
At the age 13, Lucero gained her first regular high-profile job in a popular children's show in Mexico City called Alegrias de Mediodia in 198. Since then she has released a series of successful albums. Many of her songs peaked on top of most of the Latin charts including the Billboard charts in the USA.
She received her first leading role in the film Coqueta and went on to film a total of seven movies. Lucero participated in nine telenovelas in Mexico with the leading role. She was recognized by People en Español as the "Queen of the Telenovelas" celebrated on the 2013 issue of " Los 50 mas Bellos" posing with six of the most popular actors in telenovelas. Lucero has won more TVyNovelas Awards than any other actress.
Lucero has been the hostess of the Latin Grammy Awards on eight different occasions. She is also the main hostess for more than fourteen years in a philanthropy show called Teletón Mexico and most recently Teleton USA where people make donations to help children with physical disabilities.
Lucero is the tenth album from Mexican pop music singer and actress Lucero. It was released on 1993 and is often cited as Veleta.
This album was the first Lucero album released only in CD and cassette, without being printed on LP. Had two formats: a digipack special edition & and the normal case with the bonus tracks, selling 350,000 copies on the former and reaching half-million status with the later. It is estimated that in total have sold over 1 million copies, certified by two gold albums and one platinum.
The first single (and most successful) was "Veleta" (Vane), and the singer once again face the challenge to remove Luis Miguel's "America, America" from the #1 spot in México. She accomplished that feat. "Veleta" is also her highest peak (along with Cuentame back in 1989) at the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks charts, hitting #2 on May 1, 1993. It was held off from #1 by La Mafia's Me Estoy Enamorando.
The second single "Sobreviviré" (I Will Survive) also hit #1 in Mexico (and #8 in United States) and was dethroned from pole position by the single "Ayer" by Luis Miguel.
The album was nominated for an Eres award in the Best Album category, which was awarded to " Aries" by Luis Miguel.
All track were written and produced by Rafael Pérez Botija, including the bonus tracks written specifically for the soap opera Los Parientes Pobres.
On her second live album Lucero En Vivo Auditorio Nacional the singles "Sobreviviré", "Veleta" and "El Número Uno" are included on the set-list.
Lucero is the first full-length album by punk/ alt-country band Lucero. It was released in 2001.
