Wikipedia
Garfield

Garfield is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Published since 1978, it chronicles the life of the title character, the cat Garfield, Jon, his owner, and Jon's dog, Odie. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and held the Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip.

Though this is rarely mentioned in print, Garfield is set in Muncie, Indiana, the home of Jim Davis, according to the television special Happy Birthday, Garfield. Common themes in the strip include Garfield's laziness, obsessive eating, and disdain of Mondays and diets. The strip's focus is mostly on the interactions among Garfield, Jon (his owner), and Odie (Jon's pet dog), but other recurring minor characters appear as well. Originally created with the intentions to "come up with a good, marketable character", Garfield has spawned merchandise earning $750 million to $1 billion annually. In addition to the various merchandise and commercial tie-ins, the strip has spawned several animated television specials, two animated television series, two theatrical feature-length live-action/CGI animated films and three fully CGI animated direct-to-video movies. Part of the strip's broad pop cultural appeal is due to its lack of social or political commentary; though this was Davis's original intention, he also admitted that his "grasp of politics isn't strong," joking that, for many years, he thought " OPEC was a denture adhesive".

It is situated at 320 E Garfield Boulevard in the Washington Park neighborhood. It opened on October 12, 1892. During the closure of the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line from May through October 2013, Garfield Green Line station served as the terminus of several temporary bus routes in order to mitigate the effects of the closure. Each of the bus routes transferred passengers from the sites of closed Red Line stations south of 69th street to Garfield station, where fares were waived while the Red Line remained closed.

Garfield (NJT station)

Garfield Station is a New Jersey Transit train station served by the Bergen County Line. It is located in Garfield, New Jersey, USA on an elevated viaduct on Passaic Street at Midland Avenue. It is one of two stations in Garfield, with Plauderville Station being the other.

Garfield Station has very limited weekday inbound service to Hoboken Terminal, with the last train leaving Garfield in the afternoon. Return service continues all day, with the last train stopping at approximately 1:00 am. Weekend service operates on a more frequent basis inbound. Parking is also very limited, as there are only bicycle racks on the Hoboken-bound platform and no actual street parking. Pedestrian access is available via two staircases on Passaic Street, and at grade level on Somerset Street which runs near the end of the platforms.

In recent years, both stations in Garfield were relatively bare bones in structure and had seen limited service but Plauderville saw more commuters due to its ample amount of parking. In 2011, however, NJT gave Plauderville Station a major overhaul by building high level platforms, making the station fully handicap accessible, and added more frequent service; the resulting increase in ridership at Plauderville has turned it into a mostly full service station, with more frequent inbound evening service.
