In Greek mythology, Euterpe (; , , ; "rejoicing well" or "delight" from Ancient Greek εὖ 'well' + τέρπειν terpein 'to please') was one of the Muses, the daughters of Mnemosyne, fathered by Zeus. Called the "Giver of delight", when later poets assigned roles to each of the Muses, she was the muse of music. In late Classical times she was named muse of lyric poetry and depicted holding a flute. A few say she invented the aulos or double-flute, though most mythographers credit Marsyas with its invention.
Pindar and other sources (the author of the Bibliotheca and Servius), describe the Thracian king Rhesus, who appears in the Iliad, as son of Euterpe and the river-god Strymon; Homer calls him son of Eioneus.

Euterpe is a genus of palm tree, containing eight species that are native to Central America and the Yucatan, the West Indies, and South America, from Belize and the Windward Islands southward to Brazil, Peru and Argentina. These palms grow mainly in swamps and floodplains.
The genus is named after the muse Euterpe of Greek mythology. Euterpe are tall, slender palms growing to , with pinnate leaves up to long, and a stem only about in diameter. Many of the palms that were once in the genus Euterpe have been reclassified into the genus Prestoea.
The fruit is small, but is produced in great quantity upon branched spadices, which are thrown out horizontally beneath the crown of leaves. It consists of a hard seed, with a very thin covering of a firm pulp or flesh.
The name açaí palm usually refers to Euterpe oleracea, but various other species of Euterpe are cultivated commercially under that name.
