Bustan (book)

Bustan (or Bostan , pronounced "Bustān" ) is a book of poetry by the Persian poet Saadi, completed in 1257 and dedicated to the Salghurid Atabeg Sa'd I or Sa'd II.

It was Saadi's first work, and its title means "the orchard". The book contains the fruits of Saadi's long experience and his judgements upon life, and is illustrated by a vast collection of anecdotes. It includes accounts of Saadi's travels and his analysis of human psychology. He often mentions his accounts with fervour and advice similar to Aesop's fables.

It is composed in mathnawī style (rhyming couplets), and has been translated into English.

The Bostan was translated into Dutch in 1688 by Daniel Havart.

Bustan (organization)

Bustan (Arabic and Hebrew for "fruit garden") is a joint Israeli-Palestinian non-profit organization of eco-builders, architects, academics, and farmers who promote environmental and social justice in Israel/ Palestine. It uses tactics such as non-violent direct action and lobbying to improve the quality of life for marginalized populations that live in the region, most notably the Bedouin of unrecognized villages in the Negev desert of southern Israel. Bustan is an active part of the Together Forum, and works in partnership with the Regional Council of Unrecognized Villages (RCUV).

The organization was founded in 1999.

Bustan (garden)

Bustan is an agricultural garden - a farm near the house which includes fruit trees, vegetable seedlings, shrubs, and spices. The word in Persian means a place of smell in English. Use of the word probably began during the Muslim empire and is equivalent to use the words' gene 'and' Pardes Jewish sources. Orchard was built usually near water, so common in the Middle East is characterized by a minority of rainfall.

In Modern orchard irrigation systems designed to have efficient consumption of water, and they include aids such as computers and pipettes. Computers can determine the time of irrigation, the irrigation time and amount of water each area in the garden. For example, irrigation can be done at night, preventing evaporation of water.

Orchard is fenced compound because it contains fruits and vegetables. If trees were planted around the orchard would be that protection from winds, which may harm the trees.

With good planning, one can gather vegetables and fruit orchard that could satisfy the needs of the family during the year. Sometimes it can be grown on an area of trees, shrubs and vegetables - depending on the nature of the ground, which determines how its possible utilization.
