Bad Boys (Wham! song)

"Bad Boys" was a song by British pop duo Wham! which was a hit in 1983. It was written by George Michael, one half of the duo, and released on Innervision Records.

The song was an energetic but endearing tale of a rebellious teenage lad's struggle against his parents who are concerned about his late-night activities. Although George wrote and sang it from the teenager's perspective (he was himself only 19 when he composed it and the character refers to being that age in the song), he also penned a middle eight in which the "parents" (George putting on more "adult" voices) aired their concerns, which included late nights and cigarettes and ultimately asking"Why do you have to be so cruel?"

It was the third single to be taken from Wham!'s debut album, Fantastic, and reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart, going on to become the 26th best selling single of 1983. At the time, Wham! was projecting a hard, politically motivated image, with "Bad Boys" one of a number of songs projecting a stance of mood and youthful independence, a "soul boy - dole boy" theme. The single was also released in the United States, peaking at #60. It was the duo's first time on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, although they were listed as Wham!-UK.

"Bad Boys" became the biggest hit from the debut album, although it would be usurped by " Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" from the album Make It Big in 1984, which became the first of four UK #1 singles the duo would enjoy. George quickly denounced "Bad Boys" as a song he hated, stating it was "like an albatross round my neck". The song was famously omitted from the 1997 compilation album If You Were There (The Best of Wham), despite the album including tracks that weren't even released as singles.

Bad Boys (Baccara album)

Bad Boys (DeBarge album)

Bad Boys is the fifth studio album released by R&B group DeBarge in 1987, after both El DeBarge and Bunny DeBarge had left the lineup.

When El and Bunny DeBarge left the group, remaining members James, Mark and Randy left Motown Records after a seven-year tenure in 1986 and signed with the local Striped Horse label. They then called on eldest brother Bobby (formerly of the group Switch) to join the lineup and produce their album.

With James and Bobby DeBarge now alternating as the lead vocalists, the group released the album in 1987 and released two singles: " Dance All Night", which became the group's last R&B hit, peaking at number 33, and the ballad " I Got You Babe", which fizzled at number 73. The group would later appear on the Punky Brewster show with brother Chico tagging along (Chico, then having a hit with "Talk to Me", opened for his brothers during a tour).

Because of limited promotion from the little label and no other attention brought into the El-less lineup, the album fizzled, and after Bobby and Chico were arrested for drug possession (eventually serving six years in prison), the remaining trio disbanded altogether in 1989.

The album was well received by fans of the rap/R&B genres, but disappointed fans of Mark Mancina's movie score, as only one of up to fifteen tracks composed for the film by Mancina was featured on the album. Also, most of the industrial rock tracks, which featured primarily in the "Club Hell" scene, are also missing from the album. These include "Nothing" by Stabbing Westward, "Angels" by Dink, and "Sweet Little Lass" by DAG.

The original score by Mark Mancina was released in September 2007 by La-La Land Records as a limited edition of 3000 copies.
