upcast shaft
Upcast \Up"cast`\, n.
(Bowling) A cast; a throw.
--Shak.(Mining.) The ventilating shaft of a mine out of which the air passes after having circulated through the mine; -- distinguished from the downcast. Called also upcast pit, and upcast shaft.
