Syncscan

Syncscan is an algorithm that cuts the time needed to switch between Wi-Fi access points via a number of existing solutions. Created by Stefan Savage and Ishwar Ramani in 2005, this algorithm helps allow mobile devices to switch Wi-Fi networks faster than usual.

The algorithm implements an 802.11 diagnostic system into its coding. It regularly checks nearby signal strengths, albeit for brief periods of time, and can cut the number of lost packets during handoffs to zero. In addition, it is conveniently backwards-compatible with current 802.11 standards and is easy to set up.
