Zoospore \Zo"["o]*spore\, n. [Zo["o]- + spore.]

  1. (Bot.) A spore provided with one or more slender cilia, by the vibration of which it swims in the water. Zo["o]spores are produced by many green, and by some olive-brown, alg[ae]. In certain species they are divided into the larger macrozo["o]spores and the smaller microzo["o]spores. Called also sporozoid, and swarmspore.
