Storyville (album)

Storyville is Robbie Robertson's second solo album. It is focused on the famous jazz homeland section of New Orleans and on that part of the South in particular. He contributed one song ("Breakin' the Rules") to Wim Wenders' soundtrack to his 1991 film, Until the End of the World.

In 2005 the album was reissued together with Robbie Robertson as 2CD in an expanded edition, both with two bonus tracks.

Storyville (band)

Storyville was a blues-rock band formed in 1994 in Austin, Texas, USA. Drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon, former members of Arc Angels and the rhythm section for Stevie Ray Vaughan's band Double Trouble, formed the band with Malford Milligan after a jam session at Antone's. After releasing an album on November Records in 1994, the band won a total of nine Austin Music awards; they became stalwarts on the local music scene and toured nationally. They subsequently signed to major label Atlantic Records, for whom they recorded two albums before breaking up. The single "Born Without You", from their 1998 release Dog Years, reached #28 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Storyville was a Boston nightclub and jazz music venue opened by Boston native jazz promoter and producer George Wein during the 1950s. It was a magnet for musicians like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Lennie Tristano, and Dave Brubeck who performed there regularly. Holiday recorded an album, Billie Holiday at Storyville, at the club, which took its name from the country's first Red Light District in New Orleans known for being the place where jazz truly came into its own.
