Springfield

Springfield may refer to:

  • Springfield (toponym), the place name in general
Springfield (The Simpsons)

Springfield is the fictional town in which the American animated sitcom The Simpsons is set. A mid-sized town in an undetermined state of the United States, Springfield acts as a complete universe in which characters can explore the issues faced by modern society. The geography of the town and its surroundings is flexible, changing to address whatever an episode's plot calls for.

Springfield's location is impossible to determine, and the show is deliberately evasive on the subject, providing contradictory clues and information about an actual geographic location.

Springfield (Guiding Light)

Springfield, Illinois is the setting of the television soap opera Guiding Light. It is generally portrayed as a small city or large town in the midwest, and circa 2008 is more specifically named as Springfield Township in the show's opening sequence. The township is also next to a lake large enough to have a lighthouse. Over the years, the town has become the center of major corporations, family drama and events that mark Springfield as one of the most memorable settings of the daytime drama.

Springfield (Jacksonville)

Springfield is a historic neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida, United States, located to the north of downtown. Established in 1869, it experienced its greatest growth from the early 1880s through the 1920s. The Springfield Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and contains some of the city's best examples of 19th and early 20th century architecture.

Springfield (Coatesville, Virginia)

Springfield is a historic home located at Coatesville, Hanover County, Virginia. It was built about 1820, and is a two-story, Federal-style brick residence with a central passage-single pile plan. It measures 48 feet by 20 feet, and is situated on an English basement with two interior end chimneys, a gable roof, and a frame gable-roofed porch. Also on the property are contributing kitchen and meat house.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Springfield (provincial electoral district)

Springfield was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by the province's first electoral redistribution in 1874 and existed until 2011, except for the period from 1914 to 1920.

Springfield was located to the immediate east of the City of Winnipeg. It was bordered to the north by Selkirk and Gimli, to the east by Lac Du Bonnet and to the south by La Verendrye. The riding included the municipalities of Springfield and East St. Paul, as well as Anola, Dugald, Birds Hill and Oakbank. Before 1989, the riding stretched as far as the Ontario border.

The riding's population in 1996 was 18,599. In 1999, the average family income was $67,794, and the unemployment rate was 4.50%. Manufacturing accounted for 12% of all industry in the riding, followed by 11% in the service sector. Springfield had significant Ukrainian and German populations, at 9% and 8% respectively.

Springfield was represented by various political parties over its long history, without any one party dominating for an extended period of time. This pattern hd begun to change, as the riding had been represented by the Progressive Conservatives since 1990, and the last member, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Ron Schuler, was re-elected with over 60% of the vote in 2003. The seat was considered safe for the Progressive Conservatives.

Following the 2008 electoral redistribution, the riding was dissolved into La Verendrye and the new riding of St. Paul. This took effect for the 2011 election.

Springfield (electoral district)

Springfield was a federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that was represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1917 to 1968.

This riding was created in 1914 from parts of Selkirk riding. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Churchill, Portage, Provencher, Selkirk and Winnipeg North ridings.

Springfield was a swing riding, often returning members of the Liberal, Progressive Conservative, and New Democratic parties and their historical equivalents. The riding was most recently held by NDP MP Ed Schreyer, before it was dissolved into surrounding ridings.

Springfield (Hackney ward)

Springfield is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and forms part of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency. The name is derived from Springfield Park and roughly corresponds to Upper Clapton.
