Slow dance

A slow dance is a type of partner dance in which a couple dance slowly, swaying to the music. This is usually done to very slow-beat songs.

"Slow dancing" can refer to any slow couple dance (such as certain ballroom dances), but is often associated with a particular, simple style of dance performed by middle school, high school and college students. When two partners dance together, the lead partner typically holds their hands against the sides of the following partner's hips or waist while the follower drapes their hands on the leader's shoulders. The couple then sways back and forth with the music. Foot movement is minimal, but the pair may use their feet to slowly turn on the spot. Because the dance requires little physical concentration, participants often talk to each other while dancing. Some couples who have a close relationship may dance very closely together, in a "hug-and-sway" fashion. Slow dancing is often considered to be just hugging and swaying, rather than an actual dance.

This simple form of slow dancing is common at dances sponsored by schools or by religious organizations, such as churches or synagogues. In Western popular culture, slow dancing can serve as a symbol of adolescent social awkwardness.

Slow Dance (Hey Mr. DJ)

Slow Dance (Hey Mr. DJ) is the title of a number-one R&B single by R. Kelly with Public Announcement, from the album Born into the 90's. The song spent one week at number-one on the US R&B chart and became a minor pop hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number forty-three. This was the second #1 R&B hit for Kelly; the previous being "Honey Love" from the same album.

Slow Dance (song)

"Slow Dance" is a song by American recording artist Keri Hilson. Written with American singer Justin Timberlake, the song was penned while she was a guest on the British leg of Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveShow tour. The writing team also included Johnkenum D. Spivery, as well as Timbaland protégés The Royal Court and Jim Beanz, who produced the track. The song serves as the sixth single from her debut studio album, In a Perfect World.... Giving off a psychedelic vibe and compared to 1980's Prince ballads and Ciara slow burners, the song received generally positive reviews, complimenting its musical backdrop and vulnerable lyrical appeal.

Hilson originally premiered the song at her producer/mentor Polow da Don's launch party for his record label, Zone 4, in Atlanta in July 2007, and later performed it several times as promoting it as In A Perfect World's sixth single. The song was not adequately receptive in the United States, reaching forty-nine on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Two music videos for the song were shot, the Chris Robinson-directed second version being used as the official video. The video features Hilson at getting ready and enjoying herself at a party, featuring appearances by Monica, Chris Brown, former Pussycat Dolls member Melody Thornton and Omarion, among others. She performed the song as a part of a medley at the 2009 Soul Train Music Awards.

Slow Dance (Jeremy Jay album)

Slow Dance is the second album by Jeremy Jay, released by K Records.

The album received critical acclaim. In its review, Pitchfork wrote that Jay played a "garage-rock and frigid post-punk as a backdrop for romanticized pop fantasy". Critic Marc Hogan described the song "In this Lonely Town" as a "vivid scene" of a film. Spin hailed the album, saying "his quietly unsettling aura perfectly suits" to the songs. Tiny Mix Tapes praised Slow Dance and wrote : "This is one of the smartest indie-pop albums in recent years".

The album was released on vinyl and cd. Two singles were taken from Slow Dance: "We were There" and "Breaking the Ice". "We were There" was first released on vinyl 7" inch with the B-side "Beautiful Dreamer. "Breaking the Ice" was then released on 7" inch vinyl with two extra tracks, "Winter wonder" and "Words of Love".
