Silver Star (album)

Silver Star is Gary Glitter's fourth studio album, released in 1977.

It contained three hit singles, "It Takes All Night Long", "You Belong to Me" (released as a single on Bell 1473), and "A Little Boogie Woogie in the Back of My Mind" (the latter of which was a hit twice, thanks to a cover version by Shakin' Stevens in the 1980s).

Other selections include Gary's version of "Rock N' Roll (I Gave You the Best Years of My Life)" (a previous hit for its writer, Kevin Johnson), a rock number "Summertime Blues Out", the good time boogie track "Heartbreaking Blue Eyed Boy", a tribute to the world's entertainment capital, "Hooked on Hollywood", as well as the fan favourite "Oh What a Fool I Have Been".

The album fused rock n' roll and disco and was designed to expand Glitter's fan base, especially in the United States, where he had hit with " Rock and Roll" several years previously. However, sales were disappointing and it failed to chart inside the all important Top 50 on either side of the Atlantic. Nevertheless, it went on to become a classic amongst his loyal fan base and was even voted the number one album of his career by his fan club in 1996.

The train ran from Monday, 6 September 1971 until Sunday, 8 June 1979. It replaced the Night Limited express passenger trains, which provided a faster service than the "Ordinary" Expresses by stopping at only six intermediate stations en route and not dragging postal or parcels vans at the rear. Designed as a "hotel on wheels", its carriages were distinctive in New Zealand; rather than being painted in the traditional red, the Silver Stars carriages were made of stainless steel, and silver in appearance.

Silver Star (song)

"Silver Star" is the lead song on the The Four Seasons album Who Loves You. As was the case of all the songs on the LP, it was written by Bob Gaudio and Judy Parker and produced by Gaudio. Drummer Gerry Polci sang lead. Frankie Valli's contribution was limited to harmony vocals, since he was gradually losing his hearing in the 1970s due to otosclerosis. An operation restored most of Valli's hearing in the 1980s.

Released on the heels of the #3 (US) hit " Who Loves You" and the #1 " December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)", both of which Polci was also lead or co-lead, the single was an edited version of a six-minute, nine second, song that married lyrics of love and Western movies with a disco beat that was the signature of "Who Loves You". The single reached only #38 on the Billboard Hot 100, but in the United Kingdom, acceptance was much more widespread, as "Silver Star" reached #3 on the UK singles chart, although its chart run was short-lived and somewhat erratic there.
