Sandvik is a global company founded in 1862 by in Sandviken, Sweden. Sandvik is a high-technology engineering group in tools and tooling systems for metal cutting, equipment, tools and services for the mining and construction industries, products in advanced stainless steel and special alloys as well as products for industrial heating. Sandvik has about 45,000 employees and sales in more than 150 countries. Invoiced sales is approximately SEK 86 billion (2015). Sandvik was the first company to commercially exploit the Bessemer Steel process. The first blast furnace was installed by an English engineer and is now on display in a park in Sandviken.

Sandvík

Sandvík (pronounced , "Sandy Bay"; ) is the northernmost village of the island of Suðuroy in the Faroe Islands. It is situated on the northern side of a shallow fjord. The village was previously known as Hvalvík (Bay of Whales). It changed its name to Sandvík in 1913 as there was too much confusion regarding mail delivery, because there is another village named Hvalvík on Streymoy. The village had originally been known as Sandvík during the Viking Age.
