sand lark
Sanderling \San"der*ling\, n. [Sand + -ling. So called because it obtains its food by searching the moist sands of the seashore.] (Zo["o]l.) A small gray and brown sandpiper ( Calidris arenaria) very common on sandy beaches in America, Europe, and Asia. Called also curwillet, sand lark, stint, and ruddy plover.

Sand lark
The sand lark (Alaudala raytal) is a small passerine bird in the lark (Alaudidae) family, largely resident in the river valleys of from Iran to South Asia through sub- Himalayan India to Burma. It is somewhat similar, but smaller than, the short-toed lark. In the past it has also been referred to as the India short-toed lark, Indian sand lark or Ganges sand lark.
