Rhinestone \Rhine"stone`\, n. [Cf. G. rheinkiesel Rhine quartz.] A colorless stone of high luster, made of paste. It is much used as an inexpensive ornament.

colorless imitation stone of paste or leaded glass, 1879, a loan-translation of French caillou du Rhin "Rhine pebble," so called because they were made near Strasburg, on the River Rhine, and invented there late 17c. Extensively worn later 18c.\n\nRhinestone jewelry, a reproduction of the ornaments of the Louis XV. period, is all the rage in Paris. The Rhinestones are as brilliant as diamonds, and being set in silver, will stand any amount of wear or of cleaning.

A rhinestone, paste or diamante is a diamond simulant originally made from rock crystal but since the 19th century from crystal glass or polymers such as acrylic.
Rhinestone is a 1984 musical comedy film directed by Bob Clark with a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone and Phil Alden Robinson; the film stars Stallone and Dolly Parton.
Rhinestone was a soundtrack album from the 1984 film starring Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone. The Dolly Parton-composed soundtrack produced two Top Ten country singles: "God Won't Get You" and the chart-topping "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Parton stated in her memoirs, My Life and Other Unfinished Business, that she regards the soundtrack album as some of the best work she's done, though the film was largely regarded as a critical and commercial flop. She also cites "What a Heartache" as a personal favorite of all the songs she has written, and she has since re-recorded it twice to the Eagle When She Flies album in 1991, and the Halos & Horns album in 2002. This soundtrack is currently out of print on CD and Vinyl. It was released digitally for the first time on 4 December 2015.
