The Quraysh (, ; other transliterations include Qureshi, Quraish, Quresh, Qurish, Kuraish, Qurayshi, and Coreish) were a powerful merchant tribe that controlled Mecca and its Ka'aba and that, according to Pre-Islamic and Islamic tradition, descended from Ishmael.
