Overkill (band)

Overkill is an American thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many line-up changes, with singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and bassist D.D. Verni remaining from the original lineup. Along with Anthrax, whose one-time lead guitarist Dan Spitz was also an early member of Overkill, the band is one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands, and they are often called "the Motörhead of thrash metal". The band has a notable mascot named "Chaly", a skeletal bat with a skull-like face, horns, bony wings and green eyes. Chaly has appeared on most of their album covers.

To date, Overkill has released seventeen studio albums, one album of cover songs, three EPs and three live albums. They were one of the early thrash metal bands to sign to a major label ( Atlantic Records in 1986), but did not achieve commercial success until the popularization of the genre in the late 1980s, with their contemporaries Anthrax, Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Testament. The band's most successful records are Under the Influence (1988), The Years of Decay (1989), I Hear Black (1993), The Electric Age (2012), and White Devil Armory (2014), which debuted at No. 142, No. 155, No. 122, No. 77, and No. 31 respectively on the Billboard 200 chart. As of 2006, Overkill has sold over 625,000 albums in the U.S. since the beginning of the SoundScan era, and over 16 million records worldwide as of 2012.

Overkill (Motörhead song)

"Overkill" is a song by the British hard rock band Motörhead. It was released in 7" and 12" vinyl pressings in 1979. It is backed with B-side "Too Late Too Late" which appears on the CD re-issues of the Overkill album. Early copies came with a free "Overkill" badge. The single reached number 39 on the UK Singles Chart.

On 9 March 1979 the band played this song on the BBC TV show Top of the Pops to support the release of the single. The song was a live favourite and was frequently featured at Motörhead concerts, often in an extended version.

The artwork on the sleeve was created by Joe Petagno, based on his design for the album's cover.

The song is featured as a track in the video game SSX on Tour, and was re-recorded by Motörhead to be a playable track in the rhythm game Guitar Hero World Tour.

"Overkill" was the final song Motörhead would ever play live.

Overkill (video game)

Overkill also known as Overkill: The Six-Planet Mega Blast is a vertical scrolling shooter that was developed by Tech-Noir Productions and published by Epic MegaGames and Precision Software Publishing in 1992. The game was designed by Ste Cork.

The game was lacking some of the technology that other top shareware games of the time had, such as Jill of the Jungle, ID Software's Commander Keen, and Apogee's Duke Nukem. It boasted EGA graphics, PC speaker sound effects, support for a joystick, and a General MIDI musical track. While the game did sell a considerable amount of copies, it was quickly overshadowed by later vertical shooters such as Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Major Stryker, and Tyrian.

There are two versions of the game, the shareware version, and the commercial version. Because of certain business practices, in less than a year from the original release date the author took legal action against Precision Software Publishing (PSP), who immediately lost the right to publish the game or collect payments for it from any other distributors throughout Europe. PSP's name was removed from all screens within the game for the 1993 re-release, and replaced by references to Epic UK. Nothing else was changed between the 1992 and 1993 versions. The shareware version allows the user to play planets one and two, while the commercial version grants access to all six planets. Ste Cork declared the registered version freeware on July 23, 2008.

Overkill (Savant album)

Overkill is the eighth album by the Norwegian electronic dance music producer Aleksander Vinter, and his sixth using the alias "Savant". It was released on 7 March 2013. It was released for free, and consists of previously released singles compiled into this album.

The track "Feel Me" is replaced by another track called "Shark" in all online music stores apart from Bandcamp.

Since its original release, Overkill has become a paid album on all online music stores, including Bandcamp. With the exceptions of "Big Ben", "Requiem of Dreams", "Love" and "Feel Me", the album was posted to Vinter's SoundCloud page and each track could be downloaded for free. However, on 5 September 2015, Vinter announced on his Facebook fan page that SoundCloud no longer allows free downloads from his account, claiming that Vinter had uploaded too many tracks that infringed copyrights. Vinter stated that this is probably dbecause of the large number of remixes posted from his account on the site.
