Mýa Marie Harrison (born October 10, 1979) is an American recording artist, songwriter, and actress. Born into a musical family, she signed with Interscope Records in 1998 and released her eponymous debut album the same year. The album was a commercial success in the United States and produced the top ten single " It's All About Me". Fear of Flying, her second album, was released in 2000 and became a worldwide success, boosted by the success of its second single " Case of the Ex". In 2002, Harrison won a Grammy Award in the category for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her rendition of Labelle's 1975 hit " Lady Marmalade" alongside with P!nk, Christina Aguilera and Lil' Kim.
Harrison released her third studio album, Moodring, in 2003. The album produced the single " My Love Is Like...Wo" and was certified gold by the RIAA. Following a label change and a delay in her fourth studio album, Harrison went independent and recorded two exclusive albums for the Japanese music market, Sugar & Spice (2008) and K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple) (2011). In between recording those two albums, she launched her own independent record label Planet 9, and competed in Dancing with the Stars – season nine; finishing in second place.
Aside from a music career, Harrison branched out into acting; making her feature-film debut in 1999's thriller In Too Deep starring LL Cool J and Omar Epps. She continued to score supporting roles in films such as Chicago (winning a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast); Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004); Shall We Dance? (2004); and Cursed (2005). She has endorsed several brands such as Coca-Cola, Gap, Iceberg, Tommy Hilfiger, and Motorola. Harrison's contribution to music has earned her many accolades in the fields of pop and R&B music categories. In 2009, Billboard listed Mýa as one of their Hot 100 Artists of the 2000s; placing her in the 97th position. As of October 2009, she has sold 3.2 million albums in the United States alone and 7 million albums worldwide.

Mýa is the self-titled eponymous debut album by American recording artist Mýa. It was released on April 21, 1998 by Interscope Records. Recording of the album was overseen by University Records CEO Haaq Islam after he signed the singer when she was 15. Mýa was composed of the contemporary genres with songs that were a mix of soft hip hop, pop soul and contemporary mid-to-late 1990s R&B. Production was primarily handled by Darryl "Day" Pearson with additional contributions from Daryl Simmons, Alex "Cat" Cantrall and Nokio the N-Tity. Guest features include Dru Hill front man Sisqó, No Limit rapper Silkk the Shocker, and Virginia native Missy Elliott.
The album spawned three hit singles; two Top 5 Hot R&B Singles " It's All About Me" featuring Sisqó, " Movin' On" featuring No Limit rapper Silkk the Shocker and the Diane Warren/ Babyface-penned ballad " My First Night with You".
Upon release, Mýa received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented Mýa's vocals and songwriting abilities, as well as the album's well-crafted appeal. Within the next six months, it became a commercial success. Although initially sales were slow, the album was able to reached the Top 40 of the US Billboard 200 and certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), selling over 1.4 million copies in the United States. In the midst of the album's success, Harrison earned several accolades, including a NAACP Image Award nomination and two Soul Train Music Award nominations.

Mya was an intelligent personal assistant under development by Motorola. Proposed features for the program included the ability to read emails and answer questions 24 hours a day. Mya was intended to work with an internet service Motorola was developing called Myosphere, and was planned to be a paid service that would eventually be used by other mobile carriers. A female computer-generated character was created to represent Mya in advertising. While the quality of the character's animation was praised, it received criticism for being over sexualised.
Both the character and the program were announced to the public via an advertisement in March 2000, though the program was not ready for use at that time. Despite the announcement generating a considerable amount of attention, little was heard regarding the project in subsequent months. The program was never officially released nor cancelled, though the trademarks for both Myosphere and Mya were abandoned by Motorola in 2002. The name Mya was believed to be a play on the words 'My assistant'.
