What is "monal"

Note: They are remarkable for the bright color and brilliant matallic hues of their plumage. The best known species ( Lophophorus Impeyanus) has the neck of a brilliant metallic red, changing to golden yellow in certain lights.

A monal is a bird of genus Lophophorus of the pheasant family, Phasianidae. There are three species and several subspecies:

• Himalayan monal Lophophorus impejanus. It is the National bird of Nepal.
• Sclater's monal Lophophorus sclateri
• Chinese monal Lophophorus lhuysii
