Douglas Harper's Etymology Dictionary
1540s, mynx "pet dog," later "a young, pert, wanton girl" [Johnson] (1590s), of uncertain origin, perhaps a shortening of minikin "girl, woman," from Middle Dutch minnekijn "darling, beloved," from minne "love" (see minnesinger) + -kijn, diminutive suffix. Klein's sources suggest the word is from Low German minsk "a man," also "an impudent woman," related to German Mensch (see mensch), which also has a sense in vulgar use of "wench, hussy, slut."
Etymology 1 n. 1 A pert, flirtatious or impudent young woman. 2 (context obsolete English) A female puppy; a pet dog. Etymology 2
n. (context obsolete English) A mink.
MinX was a very short-lived British music television channel owned and operated by CSC Media Group. The channel was launched on 8 October 2007 and was replaced by NME TV on 22 November 2007 at 6.00am.
MinX broadcast 24 hours a day on Sky Digital Channel 377; however, it only showed 8 hours of music videos in full every day. For the remaining 16 hours an on screen caption was shown, telling viewers to switch to Chart Show TV.
The final video to play on MinX was from the group Girls Aloud.
Minx was the first album released by Toyah Willcox as a solo artist.
It has something of a controversial reputation as it represented a departure from her previous works, which tended toward thematic albums written almost in their entirety by Willcox and long-standing band members such as Joel Bogen and Phil Spalding. As an attempt to make a more "polished" pop album and (supposedly) to break into the U.S. market, a lot of artistic control was ceded to the producers leading to an unprecedented four cover versions from the original CD's 12 tracks. The lead single "Don't Fall in Love (I Said)" was a hit in the UK, reaching the top 30, as did the album, but follow-up releases "Soul Passing Through Soul" and "World in Action" were less successful.
The album became very hard to find in the 1990s, and before its 2005 reissue, CD copies were commanding high figures on e-bay.
Minx was a monthly UK magazine published by EMAP between October 1996 and July 2000. The magazine was based in London. At the time of its closure, its circulation was 120,000 copies a month.
Minx is the fourth full-length album by the English punk band Leatherface. Though regarded as a lesser album than its predecessor, Mush, it was still generally well received, many reviews citing its strength as a stand-alone album.
