MasterChef is a BBC television competitive reality cooking show. It initially ran from 1990 to 2001 and was later revived in a different format known as MasterChef Goes Large from 2005 onwards. In 2008, the "Goes Large" part of the name was dropped, but the format remains identical. The revamped format was devised by Franc Roddam and John Silver with Karen Ross producing.
The series now appears in four versions: the main MasterChef series, MasterChef: The Professionals for working chefs, Celebrity MasterChef and Junior MasterChef for 9-to-12-year-olds. The format has been reproduced around the world in a large number of international versions.

For the first 5 seasons, the show starred chefs Gordon Ramsay (the co-creator of the show and Hell's Kitchen), Graham Elliot and restaurateur Joe Bastianich. For Season 6, Christina Tosi replaced Bastianich as a judge. Casting for an 8th season was announced via Facebook.

All the databases and digital drawings containing technical information about industrial kitchen equipment are shipped to MasterChef users free of charge (however there some restrictions on commercial information such as price list put by respective owners).

Season 3 of the American competitive reality TV series MasterChef had a 2-night premiere on Fox on June 4 and 5, 2012. The season concluded on September 10, 2012 with the first blind contestant Christine Hà winning the MasterChef title. Runner-up Josh Marks committed suicide on October 12, 2013, at age twenty-six. He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia the day before his death, and had already been suffering from bipolar disorder. He was also arrested for police battery before his death.
MasterChef is a Polish television series based on a British television cooking game show under the same title. It premiered on TVN on 2 September 2012. The show is hosted by Magda Gessler, who also hosts a Polish version of Kitchen Nightmares ( Kuchenne rewolucje) on the same channel. She also serves as the head judge and is joined on the panel by Michel Moran and Anna Starmach.
