Mammea

Mammea is a flowering plant genus with about 50 species in the family Calophyllaceae. Its members are evergreen trees having edible one-seeded fruits. The flowers are polygamous, with a globular calyx opening into two valvate sepals. There are 4 to 6 petals. Indehiscent drupes are formed, containing 1 to 4 seeds. The leaves are rigid, coriaceous and often have pellucid dots.

One species ( Mammea americana) is found in tropical America and the West Indies, one species in tropical Africa, 20 in Madagascar and 27 in Indomalaya and the Pacific region.
