A sort of hunting dog; -- perhaps from Lucerne, in Switzerland.
My lucerns, too, or dogs inured to hunt Beasts of most rapine.

An animal whose fur was formerly much in request (by some supposed to be the lynx). [Written also lusern and luzern.]
