Wikipedia
Lois is a common English name from the New Testament. Paul mentions Lois as the pious grandmother of Timothy in his second epistle to Timothy (commending her for her faith in 2 Timothy 1:5). The name was first used by English Christians after the Protestant Reformation, and it was popular, particularly in North America, during the first half of the 20th century.
According to the New Testament, Lois was the grandmother of Saint Timothy. She is mentioned only in 2 Timothy 1:5, where Timothy is told "I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well." ( ESV)
Lois has often been used as an example for Christian grandmothers. Dale Evans Rogers suggests that "her example, her teachings, and her faith" were strong influences in Timothy's life.
