What is "kuyili"

Kuyili was an army commander of queen Velu Nachiar and revolutionary against the British East India Company's political spread in the 18th century. She belonged to the Dalit community in Sivaganga region. She is known for her suicide attack in 1780. She applied ghee, set herself ablaze and jumped into the armoury of the British, securing victory for Velu Nachiyar.

Kuyili is an film Indian actress who appeared in South Indian films. She made her debut in Poovilangu released in 1984. She also acted in some of the TV serials. She is famous for "Nila Athu Vaanathu Mela" Song in Kamal Haasan's Nayakan.
