Highlander (franchise)

Highlander is a film and television franchise that began with a 1986 fantasy movie starring Christopher Lambert, who played Connor MacLeod, the Highlander. Born in Glenfinnan, in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century, MacLeod is one of a number of Immortals. There have been five Highlander movies, two television series, an animated series, an animated movie, an animated flash-movie series, ten original novels, nineteen comic book issues, and various licensed merchandise.

Highlander (dinghy)

The Highlander is a large (20 foot LOA) high performance one-design racing dinghy, also used for day sailing, popular in the United States. It was designed by Gordon K. (Sandy) Douglass in 1949, to be a more comfortable alternative to the Thistle. The Highlander was the last boat built by the Douglass & McLeod company. The Highlander features an 88 pound centerboard. The Highlander sails with a main, jib and spinnaker. With over 1000 boats built, the Highlander has gained reputation for being stable and secure. There are currently 14 racing fleets of Highlanders located in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Douglass' Flying Scot is known as the little sister to the Highlander.

In July 2012, Skip Dieball won the 2012 Highlander National Championship, which took place at Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Highlander (film)

Highlander is a 1986 British-American epic adventure action fantasy film directed by Russell Mulcahy and based on a story by Gregory Widen. It stars Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The film narrates the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines. In the film, the Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod reveals that he is an extremly powerful immortal warrior known as the Highlander, and after a fierce training by another highly skilled immortal swordsman named Ramirez, MacLeod has arrived to 1985 and lives at New York of our times, while managing an antiques shop, he also falls in love with a police woman named Brenda and finds out that he is must to face against his biggest enemy; the brutal and dark Kurgan, which wishes to kill MacLeod and to obtain "the Prize"—a special ability which giving to the final immortal warrior vast knowledge and the ability to enslave the entire human race.

Despite having enjoyed little success on its initial U.S. release, grossing over $12 million worldwide against a production budget of $19 million, as well as receiving mixed reviews, Highlander became a cult film and launched Lambert to stardom. It inspired a franchise which included film sequels and television spin-offs. Its tagline, "There can be only one", has carried on throughout the franchise, as have the songs provided for the film by the rock band Queen.

The first is a series of 13 issues simply titled Highlander that was later released in a 3 volume set. Highlander (video game)

Highlander was a video game tie-in to the Highlander franchise. It was released in 1986 by Ocean Software. It was not popular in magazine reviews. Sinclair User gave it two stars of five and called it "a golden turkey". Also giving it the "golden turkey award". The game was described as a bad port of standard fighting games at the time. Crash gave it an overall score of 57% and called it "totally boring and quite unplayable". ZZap64 gave it an overall score of 30% and wrote "This is a real case of a film tie-in rip-off".
