Grumman

The Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, later Grumman Aerospace Corporation, was a leading 20th century U.S. producer of military and civilian aircraft. Founded on December 6, 1929, by Leroy Grumman and partners, its independent existence ended in 1994 when it was acquired by Northrop Corporation to form Northrop Grumman.

Grumman (LIRR station)

Grumman was a station stop along the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road and was opened February 2, 1942 for employees of Grumman Aviation, at the Grumman Bethpage Airport. Wooden shelter sheds were built at the station which was relocated in 1951 when South Oyster Bay Road was realigned for the extended runway. Metal shelter sheds were built during the 1960s. The last scheduled service to Grumman was on November 29, 1985, and it was officially closed on December 2, 1985, The former airport is now the Nassau County Police Heliport. No evidence of the former station remains today.
