One of several species of valuable food fishes of the genus Epinephelus, of the family Serranid[ae], as the red grouper, or brown snapper ( Epinephelus morio), and the black grouper, or warsaw ( Epinephelus nigritus), both from Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.
