Gabrielle (Xena: Warrior Princess)

Gabrielle is a fictional character played by Renee O'Connor in Xena: Warrior Princess (1995-2001). She is referred to by fans as the Battling Bard of Potidaea. Her trademark weapons are the Amazon fighting staff and later, the sais. She was also an Amazon Princess and later an Amazon Queen. The character's development and progression is a story that spans the entire show's run, with her first appearance in "Sins of the Past" seeing her as a naive farm girl, and the final episode, "A Friend In Need (Part 2)" seeing her as a fully formed but rational warrior, set to follow in the deceased Xena's footsteps.

The dwarf planet Eris and its moon Dysnomia had the interim names "Xena" and "Gabrielle" until they were officially named.

Gabrielle was born in Hackney, London. Her unconventional image includes short tight curls and an eye patch or sunglassesshe has ptosis, the drooping of one eyelid.

Her debut single " Dreams" topped the UK Singles Chart in June 1993. Other singles include "Going Nowhere", "Give Me a Little More Time", " Walk On By" and "If You Ever" – a duet with East 17. After a few quiescent years Gabrielle made a comeback with "Rise", which became Gabrielle's second UK number one in 2000. The album of the same name also reached the top spot in the UK Albums Chart, where it stayed for three weeks. " Out of Reach" from the soundtrack to the film Bridget Jones's Diary reached number four in the UK Singles Chart. Gabrielle's greatest hits collection, Dreams Can Come True, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 was released in 2001.

Gabrielle has won two BRIT Awards, the first in 1994 for British Breakthrough Act, and the second in 1997 for Best British Female.

Gabrielle is a 2013 Canadian drama film directed by Louise Archambault. It was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was first shown at the Locarno International Film Festival on 12 August 2013 where it won the Audience Award.

The film stars Gabrielle Marion-Rivard as Gabrielle, a young woman with Williams syndrome who participates in a choir of developmentally disabled adults, and begins a romantic relationship with her choirmate Martin ( Alexandre Landry) while the choir prepares for an upcoming engagement singing backing vocals for Robert Charlebois.

The film was selected as the Canadian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film was also a finalist for Best Canadian Film at the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards 2013, alongside The Dirties and the eventual winner, Watermark.

The film garnered six Canadian Screen Award nominations at the 2nd Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Marion-Rivard), Best Supporting Actor (Landry), Best Editing (Richard Comeau), Best Sound (Bernard Gariépy Strobl and Pierre Bertrand) and Best Sound Editing (Sylvain Bellemare). It won the awards for Best Picture and Best Actress.
