Flores is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, a group of islands in the eastern half of Indonesia. The population was 1,831,000 in the 2010 census and the largest town is Maumere. The name Flores is derived from the Portuguese for "flowers".
Flores is located east of Sumbawa and Komodo and west of Lembata and the Alor Archipelago. To the southeast is Timor. To the south, across the Sumba Strait, is Sumba and to the north, beyond the Flores Sea, is Sulawesi.
Among all islands containing Indonesian territory, Flores is the 10th most populous after Java, Sumatra, Borneo ( Kalimantan), Sulawesi, New Guinea, Bali, Madura, Lombok, and Timor.

Flores is a private company founded in 1985 on the tradition of a family enterprise founded in 1803, which used to process fruit and produce liquor; wine, as well as other products, until 1952 when it was nationalized. Flores is the eighth canton in the province of Heredia in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 6.96 km², and has a population of 16,036. The capital city of the canton is San Joaquín.
The compact canton is located between the provincial capital cities of Alajuela and Heredia, with the Río Segundo (Second River) forming the northwestern boundary and the Río Burío establishing the canton's southwestern border.
