  1. F is the sixth letter of the English alphabet, and a nonvocal consonant. Its form and sound are from the Latin. Etymologically f is most closely related to p, k, v, and b; as in E. five, Gr. pe`nte; E. wolf, L. lupus, Gr. ly`kos; E. fox, vixen; fragile, break; fruit, brook, v. t.; E. bear, L. ferre. F (programming language)

F is a module-oriented, compiled and numeric computer programming language. F is designed for scientific programming and scientific computation. F was developed by the Fortran Company and was developed as a modern Fortran thus making it a subset of Fortran 95 and Fortran 90 programming language. It combines both numerical features and data abstraction features from these languages. F is also backwards compatible with Fortran 77, thus allowing to make calls to Fortran 77 programs. F uses the g95 compiler, which is the same compiler used for Fortran 95. F compilers are readily available on both Windows and various Linux Operating Systems free of charge or can be as part of a bundle from the Fortran Store.

In a quantum field theory with fermions, (−1) is a unitary, Hermitian, involutive operator where F is the fermion number operator. For the example of particles in the Standard Model, it is equal to the sum of the lepton number plus the baryon number, F=B+L. The action of this operator is to multiply bosonic states by 1 and fermionic states by −1. This is always a global internal symmetry of any quantum field theory with fermions and corresponds to a rotation by 2π. This splits the Hilbert space into two superselection sectors. Bosonic operators commute with (−1) whereas fermionic operators anticommute with it.

This operator really shows its utility in supersymmetric theories. Its trace is often a useful computation.

Winter nahm ihn Gwydion wieder nach Caer Dathyl zum Fest der Sonnwendfeier mit, wie er es jedes Jahr tat.

Ebert shook his head, his contempt for Fest revealed at last in his eyes.

It showed Fest standing in his doorway, saying good-bye to Haavikko and the Han.

Herr Fest, a cheerful middle-aged associate from the Institute, had made the arrangements and offered to come along in the capacity of tour guide.

Nor was there any particular reason to assume Fest would pass such trivial tidbits to the authorities.

A place like the Fest might have the atmosphere of a carnival, but the really hard-core vendors were out there, and they knew the value of what they were selling down to the penny.

It had been hard enough to conceal his glee at seeing that David had come to the Fest after all.

I think she came around to investigate every single table to give it her stamp of approval before the Fest kicked in.

Ebert nodded exaggeratedly, making Fest laugh once more, then he grew more serious.
