Wikipedia
Conditioner

A conditioner is something that improves the quality of another material.

Conditioner may more specifically refer to:

  • Conditioner (chemistry)
  • Conditioner (farming)
  • Air conditioner
  • Fabric conditioner
  • Hair conditioner
  • Power conditioner
  • The apparatus that contains most of the resurfacing components on an ice resurfacer
Conditioner (chemistry)

A conditioner is a substance or process that improves the quality of another material. Conditioning agents are also called moisturizers in some cases and usually are composed of various oils and lubricants. One method of their use is coating of the substrate to alter their feel and appearance.

Some materials used as conditioners include:

  • Polyquaternium
  • Oleyl alcohol
  • Polyols
  • Stearyl alcohol
  • Cetyl alcohol
Conditioner (farming)

A conditioner (or hay conditioner) is an agricultural machine that crimps and crushes newly cut hay to promote faster and more even drying. Drying the hay efficiently is most important for first cutting of the hay crop, which consists of coarse stalks that take a longer period of time to draw out moisture than finer textured hays, such as second and subsequent cuttings.

A conditioner is made up of two grooved rollers which the hay is forced through, causing the stalks to split, thus giving more surface area for moisture to escape. The stand-alone conditioner is now an obsolete piece of machinery, since it has been incorporated into both haybines and mower-conditioners.
