Wikipedia
Classics or classical studies is the study of classical antiquity. This covers the ancient Mediterranean world, particularly ancient Greece and Rome. It encompasses the study of ancient languages, literature, philosophy, history, and archaeology. Traditionally in the West, the study of the Greek and Roman classics was considered one of the cornerstones of the humanities and a necessary part of a rounded education. Since the 20th century, however, the popularity of the discipline has declined.
The literature of ancient Greece and Rome has been studied continuously since it was written, though it was only in the 16th century that it began to be referred to as the classics in the modern sense. In the 19th century, the discipline of classics broadened, with other aspects of the study of the classical world, such as history and archaeology, being included within it. From the 20th century, however, the traditional domination of the classics as part of elite education in the West has been eroded.
Classics is the branch of humanities dealing with the ancient Mediterranean world.
Classics may also refer to:
- Classic, outstanding example of a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality
- Classics may also refer to the study of classical texts of Confucianism, the mainstay of study in ancient China, Japan and Korea.
Classics, a compilation of previously released hits for Patty Loveless, includes two new tracks: "Can't Get Enough," which was a #21 Billboard Top Country Single, and "I Just Wanna Be Loved by You." Also included is a duet with Vince Gill, "My Kind of Woman, My Kind of Man," a #27 hit, which first appeared on Gill's 1998 album The Key. The rest of the album features her Epic Records hits: three songs from Only What I Feel, three songs from When Fallen Angels Fly, two songs from The Trouble with the Truth, and one from Long Stretch of Lonesome, the George Jones-backed "You Don't Seem to Miss Me." The album went on to be certified Gold for shipments of over 500,000 copies in the US and was Loveless' last album to receive a certification.
Classics is an electronic music compilation album by Richard D. James, more commonly known by his pseudonym of Aphex Twin (credited here as The Aphex Twin). The album was released in December 1994 (see 1994 in music).
The album consists of the Digeridoo and Xylem Tube EPs combined onto one CD with a handful of other songs. The album contains James' signature acid house sensibilities. It mostly features repetitive tracks performed on analogue synthesizers and drum machines, with some rather harsh-sounding remixes of Mescalinum United's "We Have Arrived". It was released by R&S Records following James' success on Warp Records. The track "Phlange Phace" has the track "AFX 114" from another album " Compilation" in it.
A remastered version of the album was released on 2 June 2008. The cover for this reissue resembles that of Selected Ambient Works 85–92, albeit with the black and white inverted.
Classics is the second full-length album from Ratatat, released on August 22, 2006. As with their first album, Classics is almost entirely instrumental, with the only exception being a large cat-like sound sample used in "Wildcat."
During a September 15, 2006 interview on radio station KEXP, the band revealed that part of the album was recorded in upstate New York in a house owned by Björk.
This album produced three singles: "Lex", "Wildcat", and "Loud Pipes".
The track "Tropicana" was featured in the 2007 film "Knocked Up".

Classics is a duet album by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West, released in 1979.
This album was Kenny Rogers' and Dottie West's second album together. Their previous album, Every Time Two Fools Collide, was a major seller, and made them one of the biggest duet acts country music has ever seen. This album was no different. The album sold very well, and peaked at number three on the Top Country Albums chart in 1979, and No.82 on the Billboard 200. This album featured cover versions of classic hits by other artists, including two country hit singles, one went to number one, called " All I Ever Need Is You" (a big hit for Sonny and Cher), and another went to number three, called "'Til I Can Make It on My Own" (a hit for Tammy Wynette).
The album was certified by the RIAA as Platinum. It has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Classics is the ninth studio album by American singer Jennifer Rush.
Having been classically trained as a singer years earlier, Jennifer Rush went back to her roots (her father was a tenor) and recorded a selection of her past hits with the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra. These were vast reworkings of the songs, where many had been originally uptempo pop tunes were now slow and dramatic works, such as "Ring of Ice" and "I Come Undone". As well as these, four new songs were included on the collection, including lead single "The End of a Journey". The album was released in several European countries, reaching No.34 in the German charts. This version of "Ring of Ice" was released a year later as a Promo-only single to coincide with her Classics tour. Rush undertook a tour with the Orchestra based on this album in 1999, which proved popular and appeared on several television shows with them, including on one occasion, in a duet with José Carreras.
Classics remained Jennifer Rush's last album for more than a decade, as she spent the next few years away from the business apart from occasional recordings on various soundtrack albums. In 2007, she released an album of previously unreleased and rare material and announced a return to the recording studio for her first album in ten years.

The album was released, both as a standard CD, as well as a 4-disc box set, which contains previously unreleased material. The box set was originally limited to 300 copies, however the number was increased to 500. Distinct'ive stated that the deluxe edition will see a digital release at some point in the future, due to public demand. A 5th disc was only made available to the first 40 orders of the deluxe edition, and then later given away.
