What is "carystus"

Carystus (; , near modern Karystos) was an ancient city-state on Euboea. In the Iliad it is controlled by the Abantes. The name also appears in the Linear B tablets as "ka-ru-to" (identified as Carystus). By the time of Thucydides it was inhabited by Dryopians.

Carystus is a genus of skippers in the family Hesperiidae.

Carystus (or Carycus), in Greek mythology, was the son of Chiron and a nymph Chariclo, brother of Hippe, Endeïs and Ocyrhoe, father of Zarex, and the eponym of the town of Carystus on Euboea.
