Candyman (film)

Candyman is a 1992 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Bernard Rose, and produced by Clive Barker and Steve Golin, based on the short story " The Forbidden" by Clive Barker, though the film's scenario is switched from England to the Cabrini–Green public housing development on Chicago's Near North Side. It stars Virginia Madsen, Tony Todd, and Xander Berkeley. The plot follows a graduate student (Madsen) completing a thesis on urban legends who encounters the legend of "Candyman" (Todd), an artist and son of a slave who had had his hand severed and was then murdered.

It was released theatrically by TriStar and PolyGram Filmed Entertainment on 16 October 1992. It has a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which called it a "nuanced, effectively chilling tale". It grossed over $25 million over an $8 million budget.

Candyman spawned two sequels, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, and Candyman: Day of the Dead, neither of which performed critically and commercially as well as Candyman.

"Candyman" is a song written and produced by British rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was released as the second single from their seventh studio album, Tinderbox.

The song is about "child abuse". Musically, it is a guitar-based number. Melody Maker hailed the single upon its release, saying it was "thrilling". [...] "Big and brash and clashing, it's many parts combine to form one spirited, unpredictable yet wholly co-ordinated outburst while Siouxsie's voice, in confident control, bounces up and down and around the repeating motifs, and unexpected twist of arrangements."

"Candyman" became Siouxsie and the Banshees' 13th top 40 hit, peaking at number 34 in the UK singles chart.

"Candyman" is a song recorded by American singer Christina Aguilera for the second disc of her fifth studio album, Back to Basics (2006). The song was written by Aguilera and Linda Perry and was produced by the latter. "Candyman" was planned to be released as the second single from Back to Basics; however, RCA Records decided to release " Hurt" instead. Subsequently, the track was released in February 2007 as the third single from the album. "Candyman" is described as a pop song that imitates swing styles with lyrics about sexual intercourse.

"Candyman" received generally positive reviews from music critics, most of whom praised the song's musical style and deemed it one of the best tracks on the second disc of Back to Basics, while some criticized its sexual content. Commercially, the single peaked within the top 20 of record charts in countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, it peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. As of September 2014, the song had sold over 1.15 million copies in the United States.

Candyman (singer)

Candyman (real name Ruben Cuesta Palomo) is a popular Cuban reggaeton ( cubatón) singer.

Born in Santiago de Cuba, he grew up listening to Jamaican radio, and thus reggae music. He was one of the first artists to use the Jamaican dancehall and ragga musical styles in his compositions, thus creating the first unique cubatón sound in the early 2000s.

Now considered as one of the leaders of the scene. He has a long standing collaboration with Sweden-based cubatón label Topaz Records, and has gained fame across the Americas and Europe in the genre.

Candyman (album)

Candyman is the second solo album from Steve Lukather. It was a collaboration of musicians who were for the most part also in Lukather's band Los Lobotomys. Toto familiars Simon Phillips and David Paich participated as well as David Garfield, John Pêna, Chris Trujillo, Lenny Castro, Larry Klimas, Fee Waybill, Richard Page and Paul Rodgers. Lukather recorded the album in mostly live takes with little overdubbing.

There was some confusion about whether Candyman was a Steve Lukather album or a Los Lobotomys album. The Japanese and US releases of Candyman were under the Los Lobotomys name rather than Lukather's; the Japanese release also featured a version of the Hendrix song " Red House." The European release of Candyman was credited to Lukather alone. Additionally, the touring band for the album was sometimes introduced as "Steve Lukather and Los Lobotomys" and sometimes as just "Los Lobotomys."

The song "Borrowed Time" was released as a single in Europe and included "Red House" as a B-side.

Candyman (2010 film)

Candyman is a documentary film by director Costa Botes about the rise and fall of David Klein, the man who developer and original copyright owner of Jelly Belly jelly beans. Klein went on to adopt the title of Candyman in his Candyman Kitchens business once his non-compete clause was up following sale of the Jelly Belly copyright.

The film heavily features David Klein and his son Bert Klein, but also includes interviews from then partner and supplier Herman Goelitz Candy Company (now renamed Jelly Belly) as well as Weird Al Yankovic.

The film was featured in at the Slamdance Film Festival where it averaged 4.16/5 stars in audience reviews, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto, Rincon International Film Festival in Puerto Rico and the Omaha Film Festival in Omaha, Nebraska, all in 2010. It received mixed reviews from critics earning a B+ rating from The Onion's A.V. Club and 6/10 stars from PopMatters and 2/5 stars from Reel Film.
