Black Velvet may refer to:

Black Velvet (beer cocktail)

The Black Velvet is a beer cocktail made from stout (often Guinness) and white, sparkling wine, traditionally champagne.

The drink was first created by the bartender of Brooks's Club in London in 1861, to mourn the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Prince Consort. It is supposed to symbolise the black or purple cloth armbands worn by mourners.

Black Velvet (song)

"Black Velvet" is a blues verse with a rock chorus written by Canadian songwriters Christopher Ward and David Tyson, recorded by Canadian singer songwriter Alannah Myles. It was released in December 1989 as one of four singles from Myles' 1989 eponymous CD from Atlantic Records. It became a number one hit for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1990 and reached number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart, as well as number ten in her native Canada and number two on the UK Singles Chart.

Myles won the 1990 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocalist for the song and the 1990 Juno Award for Single of the Year. Since its release, the song has received substantial airplay, receiving a "Millionaire Award" from ASCAP in 2005 for more than four million radio plays.

Black Velvet Whisky is a Canadian whisky brand owned by Constellation Brands. It has a strong taste and is known for its black labeling.

Black Velvet was produced at Schenley Industries in Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada. Schenley's Black Velvet DeLuxe was the only liquor available to submarine officers at Midway in World War II, where it was held in low regard and known as "Schenley's Black Death."

Original owner Heublein was sold to Grand Metropolitan in 1987. Grand Metropolitan and Guinness merged in 1997 to form Diageo.

The distillery was sold by Diageo to Canandaigua Brands in 1999.

Originally called "Black Label", the name was changed to "Black Velvet" at the suggestion, in the late 1940s, by the Master Distiller Jack Napier because he thought it had a velvety taste and smoothness.

Black Velvet produces three expressions which are primarily sold on the export market to the United States: Black Velvet and Black Velvet Reserve, which is an older-aged product (aged eight years), and Black Velvet Toasted Caramel (introduced in 2012). This brand is ranked number two in Canadian Whisky market share behind number one, Crown Royal.

The first Black Velvet Lady, Patricia Victoria Miller, was introduced to the world in 1969 as an advertisement tool for Black Velvet. Since that time, such famous names as Christie Brinkley, Cybill Shepherd, Kim Alexis, Cheryl Tiegs, Micah Wylde, and Kelly Emberg have all been Black Velvet Ladies. In addition, actors Telly Savalas, Larry Hagman and George Burns as well as country singer Tanya Tucker have also appeared in the ads. The current Black Velvet Lady is Tami Donaldson, born and raised in Hollywood, Florida.

Black Velvet is a quarterly independent rock magazine based in the UK. The zine originated in 1994 and is published/edited by Shari Black Velvet. The zine includes in-depth interviews, CD, concert and zine reviews and more. Sugarcult's Marko 72 also wrote a regular column for a while although now a different musician writes a column each issue.

Black Velvet is the third studio album released by American country music artist Robin Lee, and her first album for Atlantic Records. The album's title track is a cover of Alannah Myles' Number One single from 1989. Lee's cover peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts in 1990, becoming her highest hit on that chart.
