Artemether is an antimalarial for the treatment of multiple drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum malaria.
Chemically, it is a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the most important medications needed in a basic health system. Its is available in combination with lumefantrine. This combination is available as generic medication.
