ANCEP

Arne Næss Centre of Ecology and Philosophy (ANCEP), located in Norway, is a Norwegian organization working with the philosophical heritage of the Norwegian philosopher Arne Næss. Arne Næss (1912 - 2009) is the ecologist and activist who founded the Deep Ecology movement. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Oslo.

ANCEP was founded in 1998 as an educational organisation aimed at Norwegian students. ANCEP then worked to spread knowledge and understanding of ecology, philosophy and non-violence. In 2003 ANCEP changed its name to Gateway College. The institution has schools in the following locations: Bali, Mexico, Canada, London, New York, San Francisco, Cape Town.

ANCEP was reestablished in June 2011 as a non-profit organization by Sjur Paulsen, Geir Grønflaten and Reidar Goffeng. With support from Fritt Ord, Arts Council Norway, Center for Development and Environment / SUM and the Norwegian School of Sport Science / Norges Idrettshøgskole, ANCEP is now working on its first project called (Electronic Library). This project will gather all written, unpublished material by Arne Næss to be scanned and preserved, then to be made available for the general public as an online based (Electronic Library).
