Alina

Alina is a female given name of Greek origin which means "light". Other sources, however, attribute an Arabic or a Germanic origin. In both cases, it means "noble". In the Germanic version seems to be related to Alicia in Spanish and Adele or Delia in English. The Germanic root subsists in the adjective edel, "noble", or the substantive Adel, "nobility, generosity". It is still regarded as a relatively rare and exotic name in the Western World, despite now beginning to be more widely adopted in places such as France and Brazil (as "Aline"), Italy, and Spain. Besides its native home, it serves a similar purpose in Poland, Romania, Moldova, Germany, Russia, Pakistan, India and Ukraine.
